Integrating Team Science into the STEM Graduate Training Experience

By Mary Realff, PI

The Integrating Team Science into the STEM Graduate Training Experience Program aimed to address the lack of exposure to interdisciplinary team science related material in graduate education programs, providing graduate students with the skills and resources necessary to contribute to successful interdisciplinary research teams.

This program was a collaboration between researchers at CEISMC, the College of Engineering, and the College of Sciences to develop and assess an interdisciplinary team science training program for graduate students.

Outcomes

As part of the GT Effective Team Dynamics Initiative, a workshop for graduate students in interdisciplinary research teams was developed. The workshop can be delivered in a one day, two 1/2 day, 50 min modules, or self-serve via a Canvas Course. A facilitator guide and a train-the-trainer workshop was developed to enable others to conduct the workshop at their universities. The workshop offers a participant workbook and a slide-deck that is used for the facilitation. The Self-serve canvas course delivers the workbook as worksheets and “quizzes” in the Canvas learning management system.
