CGS and NSF are excited to welcome active IGE PIs to the 2026 IGE PI meeting! This page provides practical information that will help you plan your participation.

Meeting Goals:

Consistent with NSF’s goal of accelerating innovation in graduate education, the IGE PI meeting serves to:

  • Support awareness and learning about broader themes, challenges and innovations in STEM graduate education.
  • Provide a forum where IGE grantees and STEM disciplinary societies and organizations can discuss both challenges and evidence-based practices with their colleagues.
  • Promote broader dissemination of IGE innovations to the STEM graduate education community.

Presenting a Poster:

All IGE PIs are invited to present a poster during the poster session and reception on Day 1. If you choose to present a poster, please indicate your plans on the registration form and provide the following to Matthew Linton (mlinton@cgs.nche.edu) by October 5:

  • Title of your IGE Project
  • NSF Award Number
  • Poster title
  • Name of person presenting poster
  • 150-word poster abstract

Poster size should be 3 x 4 feet. You will also have an opportunity to submit an electronic version of the poster for a virtual poster hall that will be displayed on the IGE website following the meeting.

Travel to Washington, DC

All events will be held in Washington, DC at The Darcy Hotel. Washington, DC is serviced by three airports: Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), Dulles Airport (IAD), and Baltimore-Washington Airport (BWI). Information on train travel to Washington, DC can be found on the Amtrak website. The closest airport to The Darcy is DCA.

Hotel reservations (due September 21)

As a reminder, CGS has reserved a room block at The Darcy Hotel at a rate of $255/night plus applicable taxes. Please book your hotel rooms directly with The Darcy on the group reservation page. Call-in reservations can be made by contacting The Darcy at 844-489-9661 and referencing the room block for the Council of Graduate Schools, code “CGSIGEHUB2026.” Room reservations must be made by September 21, 2026 to receive the discounted group rate. Depending on your travel plans, you may only need a hotel room for Thursday, October 15. However, meeting room rates are also available on Wednesday, October 14 and Friday, October 16 to accommodate those who require additional hotel nights.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • How are travel costs funded? Following NSF’s requirements in the IGE RFP, IGE budgets should include travel and accommodation costs for participation in PI meetings.
  • Who may attend? Participation in the PI meeting is limited to project PIs. Due to space and budget limitations, we cannot accommodate co-PIs.
  • Can my co-PI attend on behalf of my project if I have an unavoidable conflict that prevents me from attending? Yes, one co-PI may represent the project if the PI has an unavoidable conflict.
  • What if my collaborative project has multiple PIs? For collaborative projects, all PIs may participate. You may also choose one PI to represent your project.
  • What if my project’s original end date precedes the date of the PI meeting? Am I still required to attend if I have a no-cost extension? PIs whose original project end dates preceded the PI meeting or who are in no-cost extension are welcome to attend, but are not required to do so.
